While working with dissociative clients I became fascinated with the complexity and beauty of the mind. Over 15 years I developed a step-by-step technique titled Your Envisioned Mind, integrating Neuro-psychological theories of trauma, memory storage and retrieval from the Limbic System and Sub-personality theory based in Psychosynthesis.
I have found that this technique allows the client, under a guided visualisation to access the Limbic System and ‘Change the Pictures’; removing the trauma/adversity memories. The Your Envisioned Mind technique further allows the client to meet, talk too, and heal sub- personalities/personalities/ego states. This ability frees the client to move on with their lives.
I developed the Your Envisioned Mind technique by working first with people with Dissociative Identity Disorder (D.I.D.)(formally called Multiple Personality Disorder). I have spent over 10 years researching D.I.D. For seven years I worked in the Dissociative Identity Society of South Australia (DISSA) as a home, telephone and group support person and was the organisation’s Chief Executive Officer for two years.
The Your Envisioned Mind technique has been successfully adapted to be used to lessen or alleviate the effects of Depression, Anxiety Disorders, Self Injurers, Post Traumatic Stress Disorder, Schizophrenia, Personality Disorders, Mood Disorders and Eating Disorders. The Your Envisioned Mind technique has also been used successfully with people with Cerebral Palsy, the Intellectual Disabled and with Learning Difficulties. The age range is from children as young as 8 years and the oldest 83. The Your Envisioned Mind technique can also be used successfully in groups for the above disorders.
I have presented my step-by-step program at Australasian and world conferences on Mental Health
Some of the awards I have received are:
- Volunteer of the Year of the Schizophrenia Fellowship of South Australia
- I was the convenor of the ‘Our Lives Our Choices’ conference which won The Gold Award from The Mental Health Services Conferences of Australasia for Best Consumer Achievement in 1999
- ‘Certificate of Appreciation for services to the Community Sector’ from the Hon. Dean Brown; S.A. Minister of Health in 2000.
